Announcement of the Vice Rector for Student Affairs of June 10, 2020 on the rules for the administration of retake assessments and retake examinations in courses taught in the winter semester, in the period from May 25th to September 24th, 2020

From May 25th to September 24th 2020, assessments and examinations in courses taught in the winter semester for all modes and cycles of study provided at TUL shall proceed according to the rules specified below.

As set out in the Academic Regulations at TUL, the scope, terms, and requirements concerning course assessment and examinations shall be the identical for all participants at all dates, including retakes.

Due to the restrictions on the functioning of the University triggered by the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, it is recommended that direct-contact assessments and examinations in winter semester courses be replaced with remote course assessment and examinations. Remote assessments and examinations may be administered during the examination periods under the terms specified in point 1 and outside the examination periods under the terms specified in points 2 and 3 of this Announcement.

The course instructor, having established whether remote assessment/examination ensuring the verification of the prescribed learning outcomes while keeping the scope and requirements accurately corresponding to those previously applicable to the traditional mode of course assessment/examination is possible, takes a decision on the practicality of administering remote assessment/examination with the aid of e-learning techniques and methods. The decision shall be taken by June 15th, 2020.

The instructor without delay formulates and communicates to the students concerned information about the terms for the remote course assessment/examination.

Remote assessments and examinations in courses taught in the winter semester may be organized:

1. During the examination periods, i.e. from June 24th to July 12th and from August 31st to September 24th of this year: Course assessments and examinations shall administered remotely by a decision of the course instructor, taken on his/her sole initiative. The instructor shall inform all students concerned about the implementation of the remote mode, the dates, and rules for the course assessment. The dates set for that mode shall be counted in the number of the scheduled assessment dates as provided for in the study regulations, and shall be counted in the number of the course assessment and examination attempts which a student is allowed. Students who do not consent to take or are unable to take the remote course assessment at the scheduled dates shall notify the course instructor prior to the scheduled date of the assessment or the examination, and the course instructor shall be obliged to arrange for those students to take their course assessment or examination in a direct-contact mode in the period from August 31st to September 24th of this year.

2. In the periods from May 25th to June 23rd and from July 13th to August 30th of this year: Course assessments and examinations shall be administered remotely upon the instructor's approval of the request to administer an assessment or an examination in a remote mode outside the examination periods. The instructor shall notify all students concerned of the implementation of the remote mode, the dates agreed upon, and the rules for the administration of the assessment/examination.

Any such agreed dates are mandatory for the students requesting the remote assessment or examination outside the examination periods and shall be counted in the number of the scheduled dates as set out in the study regulations, and shall be counted in the number of the assessment and examination attempts the student is allowed.

3. In the periods from May 25th to June 23rd and from July 13th to August 30th of this year:

Course assessments and examinations may be carried out remotely at the initiative of the course instructor upon prior notification of the students concerned. Those dates shall not be mandatory for students and shall not be counted in the number of the scheduled dates as set forth in the study regulations, however they shall be counted in the number of the assessment and examination attempts the student is allowed.

Where it is not practical to replace the traditional, previously administered method of retake assessment in a course taught in the winter semester with a remote one, the assessment or examination administered in a direct-contact mode according to the rules currently in effect may be held only during the second part of the summer examination period, i.e. from August 31st to September 24th, ensuring that the currently applicable safety requirements are met.

The provisions specified above shall apply both to summative final assessments and examinations as well as to the assessments of the discrete components of the courses taught in the winter semester.
